Secret Loire châteaux

Château of l'Islette, in Azay-le-Rideau. Loire Valley, France. Secret Loire châteaux

Published on 25/07/2017

In the shadow of their illustrious big brothers, the Loire Valley chateaux, these little-known castles are certainly worth a detour. A wealth of treasures to experience in the Vallee de la Loire.

Rodin, star of Islette

“Visitors can explore our living quarters which give the château a real human aspect,” says owner Pierre-André Michaud. “It’s not unusual for some visitors to spend some of their day in the grounds picnicking on the banks of the Indre then take the 6pm tour after a boat trip.” As well as two beautiful painted rooms, what makes the Château de l'Islette is that it set the stage for Camille Claudel and Rodin’s love affair around 1890. “To give the visit greater depth, this year we are exhibiting an array of photos, letters from Camille to Rodin and sketches by the artist.”

Open to visitors from May to September.

Themed quarters in Château de Montpoupon

Nevertheless, it is also the opening of the 1920's private appartments which tempt numerous visitors for two years. A new attractive feature for this castle owned by the same family since 1857!

Open to visitors at weekends and french school holidays from mid-February to mid-March. Daily from April to November.

The grounds are an integral part of any visit; as well as large wooden games, it’s also a great place for family treasure hunts.
