LONGITUDE : 0.4062 / LATITUDE : 47.326041

This site was consecrated by Saint Martin in the IVth century, when the then Bishop of Tours established the first church in Langeais. No trace of the original church has survived. In the Xth century, when he was building his castle in the town, Fulk III Nerra ordered the construction of a second church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. This church has undergone numerous transformations over the centuries: the chevet was modified in the XIth century, followed by the bell tower in the XIIth. Don't miss: the XVth-century baptismal font, the XVIIth-century terra cotta Lady of Bourgogne, the Xth-century crypt and the monumental Progress of the Cross, a cast iron piece from the "Barbezot" workshop.
